  "Raqs Africa" Continues
Raqs Africa is a concept that Tamalyn developed where she documents traditional dances of East Africa and teaches Middle Eastern dance to women as empowerment and cultural exchange. Starting March, 2012, She will travel to Ethiopia to film "Ethiopia Dances for Joy" and introduce the art of bellydance.
You can help support this project by purchasing "Zanzibar Dance, Trance, and Devotion," an eye opening feature length anthology of 26 traditional Zanzibari dances.

"Raqs Africa- Zanzibar"
In 2010 and 2011, Tamalyn traveled repeatedly to Zanzibar, Tanzania, where she taught bellydance to women, organizing persormances of the student troupe "Swahili Sisters" at fundraisers for "Drug Free Zanzibar". She taught classes to the Tausi Women's orchestra, Zanzibar's first and only women's orchestra.
A major part of "Raqs Africa" is called "Dance on Film," in which Tamalyn documents traditional dances of each region. The first such film, "Zanzibar Dance, Trance and Devotion" was done with the help of "Kariako," Zanzibar's state folkloric dance company. They went from village to village recording dances. According to the troupe, over half of Zanzibar's dances have disappeared. Hopefully, through Ms. Dallal's filming, their remaining dance history will be available for future generations. AND it is available to YOU! To read more and purchase the DVD, go to www.danceonfilm.webs.com or www.danceonfilm.info.

In July, 2011, Tamalyn led a group of 19 dancers and enthusiasts from around the world to Zanzibar on a cultural music and dance retreat.
After four days of workshops with Ms. Dallal and Bozenka, they all performed in "Orientalia Zanzibar," an amazing festival featuring 60 musicians (the famed Ikhwan Safaa Musical Club, and Tausi Women's Orchestra) with dances by Tamalyn, Bozenka, Leilaa Hiromi of Japan, Aida of Taiwan, Simbiya of Brazil, Malia (USA) and many more.
